Trinity receives grant to prepare future teachers for the D.C. Public Schools
“Grow Your Own” teacher prep program creation of School of Ed. Dean Christine Carrino Gorowara and Michael Rowe, program director for Early Childhood Education.
Trinity is receiving a major grant to prepare future teachers for the D.C. Public Schools. This grant for the “Grow Your Own” teacher preparation program is possible thanks to the outstanding leadership of Dean Christine Carrino Gorowara of the School of Education and the remarkable work of Michael Rowe, program director for Early Childhood Education, who lent his considerable expertise to shaping the proposal. The grant comes through OSSE, the Office of the State Superintendent for Education.
Here’s the grant announcement:
“The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has awarded Trinity Washington University $175,000 for the F24 financial year, renewable up to 5 years, to support the implementation of a Grow Your Own (GYO) teacher preparation program. The purpose of these funds is to strengthen the teacher pipeline by preparing paraprofessionals, including teachers’ aides and assistant teachers, to become fully certified teachers and to teach in their communities. Trinity Washington University will partner with PK-12 partners including Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School and AppleTree Institute for Education Innovation to prepare 20-30 new teachers in the areas of early childhood education, elementary education, and special education.”
