Philosophy
Though I teach a variety of courses in global affairs, history, and political science, my main areas of interest are the history of U.S. foreign relations and the contemporary Middle East. In all of my classes, I challenge students to think critically and systematically about the contemporary world and to make connections between the past, the present, and many possible futures. To be successful in today’s world, students must understand the relationship between their own lives and the world around them. To be global citizens, they need to empathize with people far beyond our country’s borders.
I am currently writing a book on the role that transportation pathways played in relations between Native Americans and European settlers from the colonial period to the early American Republic.
