Presented by the DC Shared Services Business Alliance (DCSSBA), in collaboration with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and delivered by Trinity Washington University’s Office of Continuing Education, this series is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of members of the DCSSBA.

Course Descriptions

BADM 150 Small Business Human Resource Management
This course provides students with an understanding of human resource management concerning small businesses. Students will learn about the functions of human resource management, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and performance management. Students will also explore legal and ethical issues in human resource management.

BADM 151 Small Business Accounting
This course provides students with an understanding of the basic principles of accounting and financial management for small businesses. Students will learn to manage financial records, track expenses, create financial statements, and analyze financial data. Topics covered include basic accounting principles, financial statements, budgeting, cash management, and taxation.

BADM 152 Financial Planning, Retirement, and Employee Benefits for Small Business
This course provides an overview of retirement planning and employee benefits from a financial perspective. Topics covered include retirement savings vehicles, Social Security, pension plans, 401(k) plans, healthcare benefits, and other employee benefits. Students will learn about retirement income planning, strategies to maximize retirement income, and the legal and regulatory environment surrounding retirement plans and employee benefits.

BADM 153 Strategic Planning for Small Business
This course will integrate the functional areas of business incorporated in prior small business courses, with a strong emphasis on utilizing the knowledge and skills the student gained throughout the small business course sequence. Students will develop an understanding that
the impact of strategic decisions has on the performance of organizations. The course relies heavily on business planning, development, and business plan presentation.

Course Requirements:
