Trinity Global Governance Fellowship students present to the UN Commission on the Status of Women
This trip is the capstone activity for the “Trinity Global Governance Fellowship” in partnership with Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS). After spending the Fall 2025 semester learning about UN and global issues, the students traveled to New York City to participate in-person as official delegates to the United Nations 70th Commission on the Status of Women.
On Friday, March 13th, at 10:30am, our Trinity Global Governance Fellows presented a panel at the Commission titled: Closing the Gap: Housing, Health, & Inequality in Latin America. This is an intergenerational panel that examines the intersectionality of gender, class, and social policy around inadequate housing, discriminatory laws, and systemic inequities around health for women. The discussion will also spotlight effective grassroots strategies and movements in Peru and Brazil that are actively expanding women’s access to justice, equity, and inclusion across the region’s diverse contexts.
Trinity students scheduled to participate were Margot Malumbu, Belky Alvardo, Ana Tomlinson, Samara Husain, ShyLynn Smith, Idaly Cervantes, Nounie Schinto, and Cinthya Calderon. The students were supervised by faculty members Allen Pietrobon, Assistant Professor Of Global Affairs, and Post-Doc fellow Rachel Poirier.

The seventieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 19 March 2026. The Priority theme: Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers.
