Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Dean and the Program Director/Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Clinical Simulation and Laboratory Operations will coordinate and incorporate evolving curriculum changes into the instructional labs, assist with proposals for grants and orient faculty, staff, and students to equipment used during instructional labs.

Responsibilities:

  • Duties typically include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Oversees and coordinates simulation and laboratory resources staff to ensure that the proper equipment and supplies are in the proper rooms at the proper times and in working order.
    • Establishes, administers, and maintains policies and procedures that dictate the overall operations of the facilities.
    • Strategically plans and facilitates utilization, growth, and efficacy of clinical skills and simulation facilities.
    • Participates in inter-professional learning activities that encourage and develop skills that support safe patient-centered, team-delivered, and interdisciplinary care.
    • Represents the school on/at university committees, activities, and events, as well as external user groups, conferences, and other professional meetings.
    • Schedules lab facilities, resources, and staff to support curricular and extra-curricular use by faculty and students, including working with advisement and registrar to determine room assignments for each semester’s clinical classes and labs.
    • Oversees database management, partners with faculty and administration to establish protocols and mechanisms that define, track, and report on utilization and outcomes.
    • Administers inventory controls, supports Purchasing (including requesting quotes from vendors and suppliers), and facilitates maintaining necessary stocks of consumables.
    • Supports Accounts Payable to facilitate payments to vendors, suppliers and support operations.
    • Participate in the hiring, orienting, and training of personnel, technicians, and educators in collaboration with nursing leadership.
  • Other special projects, initiatives, related duties as assigned
  • Plan, organize, and direct health care simulation teaching and learning activities in simulation and program labs.
  • Long term goal is to provide leadership in attaining and maintaining national accreditation of the Simulation Center as well as providing continuing education activities.

Qualifications:
Education, Preparation, and Training:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Current un-incumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia.
  • Experience/certification with high fidelity simulation.
  • CHSOS, CHSE, CHSE-A, or comparable certification preferred.
  • One (1) year in supervisory position preferred.

 Knowledge & Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication with, among, and between technical, non-technical, clinical, non-clinical, and administrative colleagues and others.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all organizational levels among faculty, students, staff, administration, vendors, contractors and consultants
  • Service oriented, collaborative, curious, flexible, adaptable, reliable, professional, quality-driven, internally motivated, self-initiator, timely, meticulous, and discreet.
  • Able to adjust schedule as activities dictate.
  • Familiarity with high fidelity simulation practices and video recording for simulation.
  • Knowledge of technology/software for scheduling, ordering, inventory, medication labels, and correspondence.
