Trinity Professors Negroni, Nielson & Stocker recognized with promotions by Board
On Friday, May 1, the Board of Trustees voted to recognize faculty for tenure and promotion. Congratulations to these amazing educators.
For Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor:
Dr. Anette Casiano Negroni: Since she arrived at Trinity in 2019 as a Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Chemistry, Dr. Casiano Negroni has become well known as a scientists who helps Trinity students learn to love Chemistry and research. Thanks to her student-centered philosophy of teaching and creative pedagogy, she has made it possible for students to master complex concepts in Chemistry, mentoring and coaching them through undergraduate research projects and accompanying them to major student research conferences. Dr. Casiano Negroni maintains her own rigorous agenda of scholarship and research, collaborating with colleagues at Trinity and other universities on presentations to the American Chemical Society and publications including in the Journal of Chemical Education. Even as she does all of that, she finds the time to lend her leadership and wise counsel to university committees and programs of interest throughout the Trinity community.
Congratulations, Dr. Casiano Negroni, Associate Professor of Chemistry!
Dr. Patrice Nielson: Engaged with the natural world from an early age, Dr. Nielson leveraged her love for nature and wildlife into her professional career as a scientist devoted to environmental sustainability and justice. Arriving at Trinity just as the pandemic swept through the nation, she quickly pivoted her pedagogy to engage students virtually in a wide range of courses and projects. She continued that engagement when classes and internship opportunities resumed in person, and she forged academic relationships across many disciplines as she built the interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program. She brought her own research interests into the program, observing campus wildlife through a network of camera traps and developing a keen knowledge of Trinity’s campus trees. She created research internship opportunities for Trinity students at the University of Maryland, Potomac Riverkeepers Network, the Chesapeake Bay Alliance, DC CHEERS and other organizations. She is the first professor of Environmental Studies to earn tenure and promotion at Trinity.
Congratulations, Dr. Nielson, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies!
For Promotion to Full Professor
Dr. James Stocker: Joining Trinity’s faculty in 2014 as a visiting professor in International Affairs, Dr. Stocker soon established himself as one of Trinity’s leading scholars and experts in curricula and pedagogy for politics and global affairs. When Trinity received a Mellon grant to create the Global Affairs Program, Dr. Stocker stepped up as the director of the Trinity Global Leadership Initiative, and as part of that work he contributed not only to program development but also to the recruitment of other faculty who have become pillars of the Global Affairs Program. Dr. Stocker’s scholarship in Middle East affairs, and particularly Lebanon, has won critical acclaim from scholars and practitioners alike, and his expertise is especially important for Trinity in these times of Middle East conflict. But demonstrating his intellectual versatility, Dr. Stocker is also a scholar in U.S. History, about to publish a book on the westward expansion of the United States and the role of transportation systems in facilitating that expansion while displacing Native Americans. Beyond Trinity, Dr. Stocker is active with numerous scholarly organizations including the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. Dr. Stocker is deeply devoted to his students, always looking for ways to advise and mentor them to improve their writing and research talents. He is also a leader among the faculty on a wide variety of issues including serving as co-chair of the Academic Executive Committee.
Congratulations, Dr. Stocker, Professor of Global Affairs!
