Philosophy

As an educator, I use self-directed, experiential, and student-centered androgogy learning theories to motivate the students in and out of the classroom. I believe it is critical to empower the students to trust in the knowledge they have; building on their foundational knowledge, while using multiple instructional methods, technologies, and their support systems. I strive to create a learning environment that emphasizes communication, curiosity, and the empowerment of learning through a mix of dialogue, lectures, lab activities, readings, videos, and community-based experiences. Through this, I believe the students will enter the clinical environment with a zest for ongoing learning. Imparting on them the ability to apply evidence-based best practices, confidence, and professionalism. To ensure the success and competency of my students, it is essential I stay current on the newest techniques, literature, and best practices. Through the scholarship of teaching and learning, I will continue to grow as an educator. Thus, allowing me to support my students in achieving their goals and aspirations.
