Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is driven by the idea that collaborative interventions bring about the greatest and most meaningful change for communities and individuals therefore that also applies to students. To truly value the experiences of those we work with, we must take the time to listen and understand those experiences. The efforts to understand must not be extractive and tokenizing, but enriching. Using a collaborative model allows me to decenter myself and focus on the stated needs of the population of focus, in this case the students in my classroom. This approach allows me to work for and with students rather than the traditional approach of working “in their interest.” Taking the time to have an understanding of what students are experiencing, how they learn best, and what they need to be the best version of themselves is best informed by a collaborative approach.
