Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the truth that knowledge is power; to know the intricacies of the human body and its named parts and processes empowers all, from layperson to professional, to wield greater bodily autonomy and to advocate for their most dignified and healthful existence. As one of the full-time instructors for undergraduate anatomy & physiology, my job is to equip students with tools for lifelong learning and critical thinking in fields that are rich with terminology and variation, occupying every level of complexity imaginable. The highly technical and systematic nature of learning anatomy requires significant guidance, instruction, and encouragement in the practice of balanced but rigorous extracurricular study, both long- and short-term goal-setting, efficient time management, effective exam preparation, and constant holistic thought. I hope to guide students closer to their declared goals via a comprehensive and challenging course, one which imparts these universally useful skills while ultimately building in the student a confident and integrative (yet perpetually inquisitive!) understanding of human biology.
