We would love to hear your stories, so stay in touch. Update your contact information now! Trinity Washington University is an IRS designated 501 (c)(3) institution (federal ID #53-0196640). Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) #71237

Fund for Colleagues in Need (FCN)

Trinity has created the Fund for Colleagues in Need (FCN) to provide emergency financial assistance to full-time employees with extraordinary needs.  This fund is supported through private charitable contributions from Trinity personnel.  We are grateful to all faculty and staff who make donations.

We aim to raise a fund of about $25,000.  An anonymous donor has made a challenge grant of $10,000 which means that all gifts will be matched on a 1:1 basis up to a total of $10,000, thus seeding the fund with at least $20,000 to start.

The Campaign for Alumnae/i Hall

The Renaissance of Alumnae Hall: Trinity is reimagining Alumnae Hall, seeking not to change its essential form in the least, but rather to ensure the vibrant life of this building for future generations of the campus community.  This ambitious project will preserve the beauty of Alumnae Hall while making its capacious spaces and attractive private rooms more comfortable and functional.

We seek nothing less than a genuine renaissance of Alumnae Hall.

Funding the Project – 125th Anniversary Campaign

The capital campaign to fund the Renaissance of Alumnae Hall, the signature project of Trinity’s anniversary era, aims to raise $30 million in charitable gifts toward the total $45 million cost of the project.

Trinity representatives will be delighted to speak with prospective donors about the details of the project and naming opportunities such as those suggested below. We are also happy to speak with prospective donors about other projects including scholarships for our students, endowment support and support for academic programs.

Scholarship Recipient Students Celebrating

The Impact of Scholarships

The exciting decision to attend Trinity Washington University can present major financial challenges for many students. Currently, more than 85 percent of Trinity’s students meet federal guidelines for financial aid. Scholarships help bridge the gap between educational costs and unmet student needs. Increasing scholarship resources for our students is a top institutional priority.

The number of students applying for financial assistance continues to rise.  Trinity is committed to increasing scholarship resources to support many of these first-generation college students. Today’s Trinity women are able to confidently let their voices be heard. Your scholarship gifts show you believe in Trinity and the important work it is doing in educating them to go forth and become today’s leaders.

Named scholarship and Annual Fund dollars significantly enhance Trinity’s ability to offer competitive financial aid packages to continue to attract and retain bright and talented young women.

Please watch the video above to hear the heartfelt gratitude of one such student, Ewaoluwa “Ewa” Ogundana, Class of 2021, a Trinity Dreamer and Senior Class president who, without the help and support of Trinity scholarships, would not have been able to fund her degree and discover her passion for learning and leadership.

Annual & Reunion Giving

Annual, Reunion, and Student Giving—The Heart and Soul of Philanthropy at Trinity

Individual giving, from loyal alumnae and alumni, appreciative students, and members of the community committed to Trinity’s mission, provides vital resources to support our students, faculty, and programs.

Unrestricted Annual Fund Giving

The Trinity Annual Fund is the cornerstone of all giving to the university. Every gift to the Annual Fund makes a difference! Last year, over 1000 donors supported the Trinity Annual Fund, totaling over $1 million in total unrestricted support – the majority of which went directly to our amazing students and outstanding faculty. It’s all about participation at Trinity, so no matter the size of your gift, please know it does make a difference!

Give Now and Support the Best of Trinity!

All gifts to the Annual Fund provide essential on-going support for scholarships, student tuition emergency funds, faculty support and curriculum development, technology, library resources, and many other critical needs. The importance of unrestricted annual support cannot be overstated – with the vast majority of funds being used to support teaching and learning and directly impacting our worthy students and exemplary faculty through:

  • Scholarships: for talented students who deserve access to excellence and opportunities to excel in life.
  • Student Tuition Emergency Funds: to assist students needing extra support in meeting tuition requirements and to help reduce debt loads and ensure degree completion.
  • Instructional Support: for Trinity’s faculty, library, academic programs, equipment and educational technology.
  • Student Services: for Campus Ministry, athletic programs and equipment, a wide variety of cultural and extra-curricular activities, and other vital aspects of campus life.

Reunion and Class Giving

Reunion and Class Giving have a long and storied tradition at Trinity. Reunion and class giving is especially robust among 50th reunion classes, inspiring class fund projects benefiting myriad institutional funding priorities over the decades. Recent class fund initiatives have benefitted:

  • Student Emergency Funds – with the Class of 1969 generating over $420,000 to help bridge the financial gap for juniors and rising seniors to off-set debt and support their persistence through graduation.
  • Nursing and Health Professions – with the Class of 1970 raising over $250,000 for aspiring nurses and health care professionals at Trinity (and helping to ensure our track record of 100% pass rate for NCLEX licensure among our nursing graduates!).
  • Environmental Justice and STEM Scholarships – with the Class of 1971 raising upward of $610,000 (and counting) to support the environmental justice curriculum and provide STEM scholarships.
  • Sister Margaret Claydon Scholarship – with the Class of 1963 inspiring initial contributions to establish the fund for their 50th reunion and on-going support totaling over $500,000 in expendable scholarship money for our excellent students.
  • The Mary Christian “Boodie” Clark ‘67/Sister Lidwin Fund – with the Class of 1967 totaling more than $150,000 to support unrestricted scholarships at Trinity.

Celebrating a reunion or organizing a class gift is a meaningful way to bring classmates together to express gratitude for Trinity. For questions regarding reunion and/or class gift projects, please contact Ashley Bianchi, Director of Annual and Reunion Giving at bianchia@trinitydc.edu or 202-884-9724.

Major & Planned Giving

Planned Gifts

Trinity has been blessed to receive estate gifts from thoughtful and considerate alums and friends for over a century. One of the best ways to make a major gift to Trinity and, probably the simplest, is via an estate gift through your will. Testamentary gifts generally qualify the donor for estate tax deductions and offer other advantages for the donor and heirs. Income producing gifts, such as Charitable Gift Annuities, Unitrusts, Lead Trusts, and other gift planning vehicles can be a great way to retain income, lower tax payments, and make a substantial contribution to Trinity as well. As well, gifting Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from an individual retirement arrangement (IRA) directly to Trinity can have certain advantages and IRA account holders who were at least age 70.5 as of Dec. 31, 2019, can contribute some or all of their IRAs to charity. Gifts of Appreciated Securities can also help maximize the value of your gift to Trinity and may also offer substantial tax benefits.

There are many ways to creatively accomplish your charitable goals for Trinity and remain fiscally astute with the wide array of planned giving vehicles available. Please be sure to consult with your financial advisor before deciding the best option for you.

Corporate & Foundation Relations

Partner with Trinity!

Trinity has been an obvious leader in addressing issues of gender, social, economic and racial inequality in our region for decades! In fact, Trinity is an exemplar for the nation, as DC’s only university designated as a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), and Minority Serving Institution (MSI). Our most recent initiative, Trinity DARE: Driving Actions for Racial Equity is creating wider career pipelines for our outstanding students and graduates through key partnerships with corporate and foundation partners throughout the region.

A few current partners include:

  • Collaborative of Leaders in Academia and Business (CoLAB) which provides ongoing scholarship support for Trinity students pursing certificates in Data Analytics. The CoLAB is an action-oriented partnership between Trinity and businesses and other academic institutions to develop the talent needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
  • Kaiser Permanente which sponsors training on trauma-informed techniques with an emphasis on cultural competency and expressive arts. This funding enables Trinity to provide professional development to clinical mental health counselors and school counselors in Wards 7 and 8 that focus on trauma-informed and trauma-responsive techniques with an emphasis on expressive arts and creative arts therapy.
  • The Clare Boothe Luce Program which supports professorships and scholarships for talented women in the sciences and mathematics at Trinity. Trinity is proud and honored to be one of thirteen colleges and universities specifically named in Ambassador Luce’s bequest to receive annual grants from the Clare Boothe Luce Program in perpetuity.
  • The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation which has long supported Trinity to fund initiatives that build connections with critical thinking and to strengthen the liberal arts overall.

Whether your organization is interested in hiring Trinity students and alums for internships, fellowships, or full-time employment opportunities, Trinity can work with your company to create strategies for recruitment. Ways to Give, Student Giving, Fund for Colleagues in Need

Many Ways to Give—All Gifts Matter!

No matter how you choose to give, your gift matters!

There are many ways to support Trinity, though we always encourage donors to think of the Annual Fund first and foremost.

Online gifts to the Trinity Annual Fund will provide the most effective and immediate support of our everyday, critical needs. It is fast, convenient, and secure.

Annual Fund support is the most flexible and essential funding for Trinity, and while unrestricted, you can opt to have your annual gift dedicated solely to scholarship support (just note AF Scholarship on your check or in the drop-down menu for online gifts).

Annual Fund gifts can also designated as Tribute and Memorial Gifts made in memory or honor of a family member or loved one, or for a professor or classmate who made your experience at Trinity extra special. All gifts in honor or memory of another will be acknowledged to the donor and a note sent to the honoree, as appropriate.

Below are different options for making your gift or pledge to Trinity:

  • Online Credit or Debit Card donations can be made using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover and put your gift into action immediately. The most common gifts made online are for Annual Fund, Annual Fund Scholarship, and Reunion Class Gifts.
  • By Check, make payable to Trinity Washington University and mail to: Trinity Washington University, Office of Development, 125 Michigan Avenue NE, Suite 380, Washington DC, 20017. Cash wire transfer information can be found below.
  • Gifts of Stock and Securities can help you to reduce capital gains taxes on the increase in value of your stock. In addition, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the stock transfer. Download, fill out, and return this “Gift of Stock” form.

Check with your company’s Human Resources department to find out if your employer matches charitable gifts. If so, obtain a matching gift form and send it to Trinity with your gift. Trinity will file for the match and let you know when it is received. (Retirees are also often eligible to have their donation matched, so check with your former employer.)
