Trinity Nursing Students Achieve 100% NCLEX Pass Rate and More July News

Dear students and colleagues,

Nursing NCLEX scores for first-time test takers reached 100% pass rate for the second quarter! Congratulations to all of our new nurses who graduated in January and May — your success is such a great testament to your own hard work and the excellence of Trinity’s Nursing faculty. Special thanks to Nursing Program Director Dr. Carrie O’Reilly, Associate Dean Dr. Denise Pope, and Dean Dr. Brigid Noonan!

Recent graduate and Political Science major Oluwafunmilayo (Funmi) Ayodeji is spending the summer in Monterey, CA at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) as part of a distinguished fellowship. You can read more about the fellowship and the work of nonproliferation here: https://nonproliferation.org/raising-next-generation-nonproliferation-experts-through-the-summer-undergraduate-program/ Many thanks to Dr. Allen Pietrobon for making this great opportunity happen for our outstanding graduate!

Dr. Jamal Watson, Associate Dean of PGS and Director of the SCPR Program, is spending the summer as a Distinguished Fellow at Harvard University where he has been working on a book on the student debt crisis, and he has facilitated a seminar for the prestigious Nieman Fellows program. Dr. Watson will also be receiving an award for his contributions to higher education through his great journalism at the national HBCU Pre-Law Summit in September.

Trinity received a very nice shout-out in the recent issue of America magazine, the publication of the Jesuits. The author cites Trinity as an example of a Catholic college that has sustained mission by focusing on students and what they need for success. That impulse comes from the great St. Julie Billiart, founder of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, whose direction to her sisters in starting their schools was to “Teach them what they need to know” to be successful in life. That’s what Trinity tries to do each day, and it’s nice that our Jesuit friends recognize our work!

Preparing for the Fall 2023 semester is underway, and I look forward to seeing everyone in just a few weeks! Stay cool, and thanks to all who are working so hard to ensure the excellence and vitality of Trinity’s mission!

With gratitude,

President Pat McGuire
