
Congratulations to Faculty Earning Promotions and Tenure!
On May 2, the Board of Trustees voted to award tenure and promotion to associate professor to four of Trinity’s faculty, and to confer full professor status on three senior faculty.
“This recognition is so well-deserved for each of these very talented faculty leaders in our community of scholars. Please join me in extending our heartfelt congratulations to each of them,” writes Trinity President, Patricia McGuire ’74. “Also, many special thanks to the Faculty Committee on Rank and Tenure, Dean Ramamurti and Provost Ocampo for reviewing the faculty portfolios.”
Earning Promotion to Full Professor:
Dr. Christopher Bishop, Psychology
Dr. Bishop is distinguished for his service on the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists, appointed by two successive governors, rising to serve as chair. He serves on numerous other organizations devoted to the practice of Psychology. At Trinity, he has contributed to the development of the Psychology Major, revamping the Psychology Practicum and teaching a broad range of courses in one of Trinity’s largest majors. He has also expanded the use of undergraduate research in Psychology.
Dr. Shizuka Hsieh, Chemistry
Dr. Hsieh is widely praised for her creative pedagogy that makes Chemistry both accessible and enjoyable for Trinity students; she practices the ideal of inclusive excellence in teaching. She is also a staunch advocate for Environmental Justice in the Washington Community, providing testimony before the D.C. Council and research data for neighborhood groups. She is also responsible for the successful DC-NASA Space Grant program that supports student research in cooperation with American University.
Dr. Patrice Moss, Biochemistry
Dr. Moss pioneered undergraduate research at Trinity in 2015 and the program has grown significantly with her leadership, now including disciplines across the university. Her teaching style reflects the best of inclusive excellence, using a broad range of pedagogical techniques to give every student an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the sciences and related fields. She listens carefully to student feedback and is constantly adapting her courses for improved outcomes for students.
Earning Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor:
Dr. Jennifer Lee, Education
Dr. Lee has single-handedly transformed the undergraduate Education Major, creating opportunities for students to improve their performance on the Praxis exam and providing an alternative pathway in Community Education. She is a scholar on the assessment of educational practices to improve student outcomes. She has also made significant contributions to Trinity’s reports to CAEP, the specialized accreditor for teacher education.
Dr. Hans Momplaisir, Sociology
Dr. Momplaisir uses a broad range of pedagogical strategies to ensure student success in his courses. As a first generation student, himself, he is able to relate to the experiences of many Trinity students while emphasizing the importance of persistence and resilience to achieve academic success. He has been part of in the development of Trinity’s dual enrollment and Early College programs, and he enjoys working with the high school students to build a strong platform for their future collegiate success.
Dr. Kimberly Monroe, Global Affairs
Dr. Monroe eagerly solicits feedback from her students in each class so that she can improve her teaching on a continuous basis. She uses a broad range of teaching methods from blogs to podcasts to field experiences and more. She created the Africana Studies minor. She is a scholar in Black power and Africana women activists. She has received numerous awards including a 2024 Mellon Foundation Emerging Faculty Leaders Award.
Dr. Allen Pietrobon, Global Affairs
Dr. Pietrobon is well known for his lively classroom techniques and eager engagement of students in experiential learning opportunities such as Citizens for Global Solutions at the United Nations. He has contributed to the development of the Global Affairs Program and revision of the Politics and Public Policy major. A scholar on nuclear non-proliferation, Dr. Pietrobon published a widely acclaimed book on Norman Cousins, is a contributor to a documentary on Robert Oppenheimer and a History Channel documentary on John F. Kennedy.
