1971 In Memoriam
Ms. Patricia Ann Broderick ’71
June 17, 2025
Patricia A. Broderick (Pat or Patti to her friends), senior associate judge of the District of Columbia Superior Court, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at an acute care hospital in the District of Columbia.
Judge Broderick was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey. In 1967, she entered Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University) in Washington, DC, where she majored in sociology. On September 3, 1970, just before the start of her senior year, Pat was injured in an automobile accident during a trip with college friends. She was paralyzed from the chest down, a condition that was ultimately determined to be permanent. Following a period at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, she attended classes at Seton Hall and Hofstra Universities, finished her coursework at Trinity College in December 1971, and received her Trinity degree cum laude with the class of 1972.
In 2024, she published her memoir, “Reinventing the Wheel: Hard Roads Can Lead to Beautiful Places,” which details her extraordinary journey navigating life in a wheelchair, and presented a book talk about it on campus during Reunion 2024.

Ms. Joyanna Moy ’71
June 11, 2025
Joyanna T. Moy, beloved wife, mother, and sister, died after a brief hospitalization and illness on June 11, 2025, in Washington, DC.
Joy was born in Washington, DC on April 16, 1950 to Hamilton and Mary Moy. She attended DC public schools and attended high school at Woodrow Wilson High School. Always a good student, Joy was able to leave Wilson after three years and enrolled at Trinity College, Washington, DC. It was at Trinity that she met her best friend, Dina Giambi, where they were both working in the college’s library.
After graduating with a degree in Economics from Trinity in 1971, she accepted a job at the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor, where she had interned during college. She worked in the International Comparisons section of the Bureau of Labor Statistics for more than 30 years. She met her husband, John F. Stinson, Jr., from talking on the phone to exchange statistical information. They eventually met in person and at some point, Joy asked him out. After many years of dating, they married in August 1985 at Holy Rosary Church in Washington, DC.
